What sort of corporate headshot should I have?

What sort of corporate headshot should I have?

Deciding what sort of corporate headshot you should use on your company website, pitch documents, presentations and your LinkedIn profile. Our suggestion here come from our experience with our corporate headshot commissions. Companies are coming to us requesting that we shoot their new headshots in two different ways. They are asking for the traditional business headshot which is taken in our studio with a clean white background and the sitter in formal business attire. Men in a dark suit with white shirt and tie. Women in dark jackets with white shirts. Companies also want a less formal corporate headshot and this is captured with an office background and men and women without jackets and with open-neck shirts. These headshots usually involve the sitter looking more relaxed and smiling.

Below is a set of guides we often receive before the headshot commission for a recruitment company.

The business casual styling portrays us as approachable, friendly and professional, and should be the default photo styling.
In instances where a more formal business photo styling is required, the formal business styling is used.

  • Open-collared dress shirt must be paired with a sports jacket, blazer or suit jacket. The colour of your dress shirt can be of a brighter shade, but your jacket should not be a loud colour (e.g., neon yellow or green).
  • Blouse can be worn without jacket and can be of a brighter colour.
Deciding what sort of corporate headshot you should depend on the business sectors you work in.

Our client base is companies operating in The City and West End of London. We work with legal and financial sectors and with recruitment and IT industries. The legal and financial clients tend to want their corporate headshots with a formal serious style as they are dealing with people’s investments and legal deals.

Clients in recruitment and IT tend to go for the more casual relaxed style of corporate headshot. Sometimes described as contemporary as their industries are ever-changing and they need to look fresh and up to date.
